Talena Carter’s work lives at the intersection of art and faith. Every piece she creates begins as an act of surrender, a willingness to show up without knowing exactly where the brush will lead. For Talena, her artwork is play and prayer.

Through themes of faith, transformation, and divinity, she hopes each image invites viewers in for a closer look, revealing what is hidden beneath the layers and the meaning infused through its symbols. Her work offers an invitation to rediscover the childlike wonder within.

How She Works

Talena loves exaggerated color bursting from muted tones and playful, spontaneous marks layered over realistic renderings. Soft brush strokes merge into bold ones, alongside purposeful drips and texture that comes and goes. She delights in realism emerging from the abstract and seeks to draw beauty from chaos.

Each piece is a journey of self-discovery and God-discovery. She works primarily in mixed media, building up layers of paint, oil glazes, and texture, often finishing with a rich coat of oil that deepens the color and brings the image to life. The gallery edges are part of the story, lovingly wrapped in vintage world maps or continued brushwork so the painting breathes on every side.

Faith at the Center

Talena believes art asks people to show up in the most vulnerable of ways. It holds space for grief, wonder, longing, and joy all at once. Her paintings are rooted in Scripture and the conviction that beauty is prophetic, that a piece of art hung in a home can release revelation, awaken hope, and remind those who encounter it of their identity as created children of God.

From the stag that declares abundant life to the monarch butterfly resting on the Tree of Life, her imagery carries deep meaning. She hopes viewers feel it before they fully understand it and discover something new each time they look.
